A 15-year-old teenager was hit by a bus in central Nancy and died instantly on Friday.

The collision occurred in the heart of Nancy's Stanislas district, on rue Henri Pointcarré, around 4 pm.

The Lorraine media report that the line 11 bus had just left the ‘Poirel’ bus stop when the events unfolded. As soon as the bus turned right, it came to face the 15-year-old teenager, who was running on the pavement. "The driver was unable to avoid the impact", wrote Républicain Lorrain on Saturday morning.

When the emergency services arrived, the victim was lying under the bus. The firefighters managed to extract the teenager quickly, but soon found that he was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Without success, they tried to resuscitate him. The authorities then cordoned off the area and draped a white sheet around the victim's body until he could be evacuated. At the same time, the ‘very shocked’ driver was attended to.

The operation lasted over two hours and caused heavy traffic disruptions in the area. The victim's body was taken to the forensic institute shortly after 6 pm.
