Four years after a deadly rampage claimed the lives of seven people in Trier, an installation commemorating the victims has been unveiled.

On Sunday, local authorities in Trier inaugurated a commemorative monument in memory of the victims of a deadly rampage that took place four years ago in Germany's oldest city.

According to Die Nachrichten, a crowd united at 13:46 PM, the exact time of the incident, in order to inaugurate the new monument and pay respects. The cathedral bells tolled for four minutes, symbolising the length of the attack. The monument is near the historic Porta Nigra, the large Roman city gate ruins in Trier.

On 1 December 2020, a man drove his SUV through the pedestrian zone in the city centre of Trier, deliberately targeting groups of people. He was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to be kept in a closed psychiatric hospital. The trial was unable to determine the man's motives.
