US ELECTIONS - In an interview with RTL Today at the US Ambassador Residence in Luxembourg City two weeks ahead of the presidential election, Ambassador Thomas M Barrett has discussed the embassy's support for overseas voters and the strong interest in the election among both Americans and Luxembourgers.
DEMONSTRATIONS - Demonstrations for peace in Ukraine and Palestine drew crowds in Luxembourg City on Saturday, as citizens called on leaders to prevent further harm to innocent civilians.
MEP CRITICISM - On Saturday, Luxembourg MEPs Tilly Metz, Marc Angel, Charles Goerens, and Fernand Kartheiser participated in a roundtable discussion on RTL Radio, where they offered sharp criticism of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. While acknowledging her leadership qualities, they criticised her approach to governance, describing it as an attempt to assert her authority and "pull the strings."
CHRISTMAS PALACE - Although it's only October, the Grand-Ducal Palace is already decked out with Christmas decorations, colourful tinsel and Christmas tree baubles. The festive setup is part of preparations for the annual Christmas Eve television address by the Grand Duke, which will be filmed in this seasonal setting.

US ELECTIONS - Donald Trump has held a massive rally in Madison Garden in New York, telling thousands of his supporters that he will end inflation if he is elected President. Trump spoke for over an hour, promising tighter border controls and to bring back the American dream.
The Puerto Rican reggaeton star Bad Bunny has come out in support of the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris which comes as both Harris and Trump try to win support from Latino voters. Polls are showing that the Democratic vice president and Republican former president remain neck-and-neck as Election Day on November 5 looms.
GEORGIA ELECTIONS - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has called for people to take to the streets today to protest the results of Saturday’s disputed parliamentary election. She says the results are a “total fabrication”. According to the electoral commission the ruling party has clinched nearly 54% of the vote but both the EU and US are supporting calls for investigations into “election-related violations,” citing reports from international and local observers of "vote buying and voter intimidation".
JAPAN ELECTIONS - Japan’s governing liberal Democratic party is meeting to discuss a way forward after elections handed them a rare defeat. Parties are now expected to begin a period of negotiation with little clarity over who will be able to form the next government.
MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT - The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting today at Iran’s request following Israel’s deadly missile strikes on Iranian military sites. Meanwhile in a bid to end the Israel-Hamas conflict, Egypt’s President Sisi has proposed a two-day ceasefire and a hostage swap, while Israel continued strikes across Gaza and Lebanon at the weekend.
TIMOTHY CHALAMET - The actor Timothy Chalamet has made a surprise appearance at his own lookalike contest in New York. He posed for photos with his doppelgangers, sparking huge excitement among fans.
Sport
FORMULA 1 - Carlos Sainz has won the Mexico Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver was almost 5 seconds ahead of Lando Norris at McLaren. World champion Max Verstappen came in 6th place. The next race is already next weekend, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
 
FOOTBALL - In yesterday’s games in the German Bundesliga, Bayern beat Bochum 5-0. It was a 1-1 draw between Union Berlin and Frankfurt. And it was a no-goal score between Heidenheim and Hoffenheim.
In the English Premier League, Arsenal and Liverpool drew 2-2 and West Ham won 2-1 against Manchester United.
And in France, Marseille lost to Paris St. Germain 3-0.
RUGBY - The Luxembourg team lost 47-20 to Lithuania in their inaugural Rugy Europe Trophy match on Saturday. Pre-match injuries left them without key players, but they’ll be back for the upcoming game against Croatia on November 30 at the Stade de Luxembourg. Back in Luxembourg, Rugby Club Luxembourg played their first home game at the Josy Barthel stadium and came away with a 21-15 victory against RG Heidelberg in the 1. Bundesliga, despite missing several key players who were in the national team squad.
