FLOOD ALERT - The levels of streams and rivers in the country are continuing to recede. In Ettelbruck, the water level of the Alzette has dropped and despite a risk of a significant rise in water levels in Bollendorf, they have also been going down since yesterday evening.
HOUSE PRICES - Luxembourg's real estate market is showing signs of stabilising. Although rents continue to soar, apartment sale prices in Luxembourg have continued to drop in the third quarter of 2024, according to the latest report by real estate agency atHome. The ad platform is expecting the market to attract new potential buyers over the coming months as a result of the stabilising prices and a drop in interest rates for mortgages.
ARTIST EXPULSION - Minister of the Interior Léon Gloden and Minister of Culture Eric Thill said it may yet be possible for the Iranian artist Alborz Teymoorzadeh to remain in Luxembourg, despite earlier reports that he was facing expulsion from the country. The ministers said he should be able to prove he has sufficient means to support himself prior to returning to Luxembourg.
PIZZA BOXES - Cardboard pizza boxes could be banned in Luxembourg. The Ministry of the Environment is currently in discussions with the National Federation of Hoteliers, Restaurateurs and Café Owners (Horesca) regarding a law which aims to reduce the amount of waste in takeaway food orders, particularly pizza packaging. The ban would only apply to restaurants, not supermarkets, representing a possible new blow to the hospitality sector.
MUSEUM NIGHT - For the night owls among you, head down to the wonderful Museum Night with a special programme of performances, DJ sets, music, workshops, special guided tours in 7 participating museums. Starts at 17:00 on Saturday.

MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT - Israel has carried out what appears to be its deadliest attack yet on central Beirut since the escalation and action against the armed group Hezbollah. Lebanon’s health ministry said at least 22 people were killed in airstrikes on residential buildings near the city centre. Elsewhere the UN has criticised a separate Israeli attack on one of its peacekeeping bases in southern Lebanon, in which two people were wounded.
HURRICANE MILTON - There is a sense in Florida that despite at least 11 deaths and widespread destruction, Hurricane Milton wasn’t as catastrophic as was feared. Governor Ron de Santis said the state had avoided the worst case scenario.
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE - This year's Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo today. The Norwegian committee will make their decision official at 11am. 197 people and 89 organizations have been nominated. Details are strictly confidential each year.
ZELENSKY TOUR - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is meeting Pope Francis and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz today as he ends a whirlwind tour of Europe aimed at drumming up support ahead of a tough winter. Zelensky is seeking a military and financial boost during a 48-hour trip to London, Paris, Rome and Berlin, amid fears of dwindling support if Donald Trump wins the US presidency next month.
DIDDY TRIAL - A US judge has ruled that the rapper and producer Sean 'Diddy' Combs will stand trial on racketeering and sex trafficking in May next year. Combs has twice been denied bail, as prosecutors have voiced concerns of witness tampering. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

FOOTBALL - Starting with some results in the Nations League:
Italy and Belgium drew 2-2. France beat Israel 4-1 and a 94th-minute winner by Vangelis Pavlidis gave Greece a 2-1 victory against England.
Tonight’s matches include Bosnia playing against Germany. Luxembourg plays Bulgaria tomorrow, at 6pm.
TENNIS - Rafael Nadal has announced he will retire after the Davis Cup finals in November, ending a career which brought 22 Grand Slam titles, global respect and inspired epic, iconic rivalries with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The 38-year-old Spaniard is set to end his two decades as a professional with 92 titles and prize money alone of $135 million.
And world number two Carlos Alcaraz was knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in straight sets by 33rd-ranked Tomas Machac on Thursday, losing 7-6 (7/5), 7-5. The Czech will face world number one Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.
BASKETBALL - Danny Green, among only four players to win an NBA title with three different clubs, announced his retirement from the league after 15 seasons. The 37-year-old American guard, a 3-point sharpshooter who hit 40% from beyond the arc over his career, announced his decision on social media.
