A shooting incident at Place Jean-Perrin in Woippy on Monday night has left a young man injured and local authorities investigating an attempted murder.

At around 11pm on Monday evening, residents of Place Jean-Perrin in Woippy were rattled by loud gunfire. Emergency services were immediately alerted as a result, and when they arrived at the scene, they found a young man with gunshot wounds on the third floor of a block of flats.

The 24-year-old victim had been hit in the leg by a bullet from a pistol. According to Le Républicain Lorrain, the bullet was 9 millimetres.

Police subsequently set up a safety perimeter while emergency services attended to the injured man, who was taken to Mercy hospital. It remains unclear at this stage what happened, but local authorities have in the meantime opened an investigation into attempted murder.
