At around 4.15am, the Bitburg police received reports of a fire in Neuerburg, not far from the Luxembourgish border.
A building in Poststrasse was engulfed in flames, requiring the evacuation of not only the people inside, but also those in neighbouring buildings. In total, 20 people had to be evacuated.
The firefighting efforts lasted until Saturday morning. It was only afterwards that the rescue teams discovered that one person did not survive the fire.

The fire did not spread to the neighbouring buildings thanks to to the swift intervention of the fire fighters. One of the nearby buildings is the former hotel "Stadt Neuerburg," which currently houses refugees from Ukraine.
As of Saturday morning, there is no information on what started the fire or how much damage it caused.
