An 88-year-old man underwent surgery on Saturday evening after declaring in the emergency room that a World War I projectile was lodged in his anus.
A French hospital was partially evacuated and the bomb squad was called in. Every precaution was taken and bomb disposal experts at the scene determined that there was little chance of the grenade exploding inside the man.
The doctors proceeded to remove the grenade, which was around 20 centimetres long and 5 centimetres wide, via abdominal surgery.
The hospital later announced that the man is in 'good health' and is expected to make a full recovery.
