
BODY PARTS FOUND - A frightening discovery was made between Temmels and Fellerich in Germany, right on the Luxembourg border. A witness discovered human body parts in a parking lot at around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon. Investigators found the body parts of an, as yet, unidentified person in bushes away from the car park. Trier police has taken up the investigation and has initiated further searches in the area where the body was found. For now, no information can be given regarding the identity and origin of the victim or the circumstances under which the body was found. The investigation is still ongoing.
NORTH KOREA MISSILES - According to the South Korean military, North Korea has unsuccessfully fired an intercontinental ballistic missile. People in parts of northern Japan were ordered to seek shelter during the North’s latest launches, which included two short-range missiles and followed a blitz of projectiles fired on Wednesday. The intercontinental ballistic missile appears to have failed mid flight. The United States and Japan have condemned the launch despite its apparent failure.
INTEREST RATES INFLATION - Wall Street stocks have fallen and the dollar has gained after the Federal Reserve announced another large interest rate hike. It increased by 0.75 percentage points and is therefore between 3.75 and 4%. It is the sixth increase this year. The Bank of England is also widely expected to hike its key interest rate today the biggest amount since 1989 as it bids to cool sky-high British inflation.
TEMPERATURES WMO REPORT - Temperatures in Europe have increased at more than twice the global average in the last 30 years, according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization. The European region has on average seen temperatures rise 0.5 degrees Celsius each decade since 199. The effects of this warming are already being seen, with droughts, wildfires and ice melts taking place across the continent.
Meanwhile MeteoLux has announced that last month was the warmest October on record.With an average of 12.8 degrees Celsius, October was 2.9 degrees above the “normal climate” of the years 1991 to 2020, with an average temperature of 9.9 degrees.
HANDBALL QUALIFIERS - In Ladies handball, even in the return match, the Luxembourg handball players clearly lost against Ukraine in the qualification for the World Cup last night. Yesterday, the team lost 11 out of 30. On Tuesday, the Red Lions already lost 36 to 13 against the Ukrainian selection. Luxembourg has therefore been clearly eliminated by Ukraine and the dream of the World Cup is finished after the first qualifying round. FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - The Champions League group stages are over. AC Milan has qualified as the last team for the final 8, by beating Salzburg 4-0. Chelsea won 2 -1 against Dynamo Zagreb, and remains 1st in the table. Real Madrid gave Celtic Glasgow no chance: 5-1 was the final result. Meanwhile, Manchester City beat FC Sevilla 3 -1. Borussia Dortmund drew with Copenhagen 1-1, Juventus Turin lost 1-2 against PSG and Benfica Lisbon won 6 -1 against Maccabi Haifa.
TMRW SPORTS - TMRW Sports, a tech-focused company co-founded by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have announced a star-studded investor group that includes tennis greats Serena Williams and Andy Murray, Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, NBA champion Stephen Curry as well as singer Justin Timberlake. TMRW Sports will launch a tech-focused golf league in 2024 featuring six three-man teams, playing on a virtual 18-hole course.
