The woman in question, who lives in Taiwan, found the toy on sale at a Carrefour supermarket on the island. She informed another Polish citizen, Ela Sobczak, who raised the alarm with local news outlet Taiwan News.
The toy is being marketed locally as a “toddler-friendly” device, that dances and sings to young children.
However, an English translation of the lyrics reveals some rather adult content. It begins, “The only thing in my head / Is five grams of cocaine”.
The song goes on to narrate the experience of drug abuse and the user’s suicidal thoughts, and frequently features Polish swear words.
The mother recognised the song as ‘Gdzie jest biały węgorz? (Zejście)’, by the Polish rapper Cypis.
The 32cm high toy is widely sold online, including in Europe, with the songs being described as “cheery” in one product description. The product is “the best birthday present for kids” and likely to “attract the children’s attention.”
Sobczak, who told Taiwan News about the toy’s existence, concluded that “the song itself is definitely inappropriate to play in front of children.”
