According to Les Dernières nouvelles d’Alsace, the Strasbourg University Hospital (CHU) has alerted the Regional Health Agency to a new potential variant from the Alsace region.

“It carries a mutation on an enzyme, the polymerase, which is involved in the multiplication of the virus. It was identified because in PCR screening tests, one of the markers systematically came back negative.” Last week, indeterminate variants represented 4.2% in Bas-Rhin and 8.8% in Haut-Rhin.

Up until Sunday, 648 Covid patients have been hospitalised in Alsace, of which 123 are in intensive care.
