The animal was last seen a few kilometres away from Saverne and the border between Bas-Rhin and Moselle.
According to local media France Bleu Alsace, the creature is a “young wolf” in search of a new territory.
Internet users have reportedly shared images of an individual chasing the wolf on a quad bike.
Environmental protection association, Observatoire des Carnivores Sauvages, has issued a warning against disturbing the animal, stating that wolves are a protected species and fines will be distributed to those who get too close.
