The 3.4-meter long tiger shark was caught as part of a research project to reduce the risks of shark attacks in the Indian Ocean. Earlier this year, a fisherman and a surfer died after they were attacked by sharks - and there have been more than 20 attacks within the last 9 years.

Scientists dissected the animal and found human remains inside its stomach alongside a bracelet. The remains were in poor state, which led investigators to believe that they were not ingested within the last 48 hours prior to the gruesome discovery.

The authorities believe that the remains belong to a man who went missing in December - his family identified the bracelet.

It remains unclear whether he died in a shark attack or drowned and was later eaten by the shark.
