Outgoing European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker bade farewell at a press conference earlier this Friday.

It was the last press conference for Juncker as head of the European Commission. Brussels' next top official Ursula von der Leyen will take office on Sunday after winning a comfortable parliamentary majority for her plan to build a green superpower after initially having several candidates be rejected.

After spending one hour with the journalists, it was time for outgoing EU commission president to say goodbye in what was possibly the most Juncker-like way imaginable: "I have to stop, I'm hungry."

Unsurprisingly, this light-hearted intervention prompted quite a few laughs and cheers from the assembly. It's fair to say that Juncker's zany humour will be missed.
