At 4 am on Saturday 4 January, 16-year-old Yacine was en route to his work. The young teenager is an apprentice at a bakery in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, near Nancy. On his walk to work, he discovered a man trying to force open the entrance of a nearby business. He told L’Est Républicain that the masked man was trying to open the door to a pizzeria and that his scooter was parked nearby. The teenager noticed the man was getting frustrated as the door was not opening.

Cleverly, Yacine pretended to keep on walking by and immediately called the emergency number 17, which dispatched a patrol of two police officers immediately. The officers attempted to arrest the man, who resisted them for someone. The teenager called the number again to request reinforcements, which allowed the officers to finally immobilise the burglar.

The young man was finally able to continue on his way and arrive at the bakery to begin his day of work. Later on, when his brother brought him to the police station to provide his witness statement, he even brought croissants to offer to the officers. The head of the police station sent a letter to thank the young man for his vigilance.
