More than 100 firefighters fought for hours against the intense fire in a building located southeast of Denver, near Glendale, on Friday evening, said Robert Murphy, the Denver Fire Department’s chief of operations, to local TV station KMGH. The fire broke out in a building under construction and spread across an entire neighborhood.
One firefighter was injured and taken to a Denver hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Residents of the neighborhood were evacuated because of the fire and the thick smoke. Late in the evening, the fire was largely under control, but not yet completely extinguished. Firefighters were expected to remain on site all night to fully put out the remaining hot spots.
Authorities set up a temporary shelter at a performance venue in Glendale, a neighboring city, police said.
