The town in North Rhine-Westphalia was severely affected by the floods that ravaged the wider region less than two weeks ago.

During clearing works, a volunteer found a thousand ammunition rounds in a flooded basement while pumping out water. He also found a number of training grenades, after which he immediately alerted local police.

According to reports, the home owner complied with police orders and voluntarily handed in further weapons, including two rifles, a pistol, a sabre, as well as a bayonet. An investigation into the matter has been initiated.
