The environmental non-profit natur&ëmwelt is once again inviting the public to participate in its annual winter bird count, an initiative aimed at estimating populations and tracking long-term trends of common bird species across Luxembourg.
Each January, the organisation calls on residents to help survey the Grand Duchy’s most common bird species. The collected data enables natur&ëmwelt to better assess bird populations and monitor changes from year to year.
Participation is simple: volunteers are asked to spend one hour between 23 and 25 January observing birds in their garden or on their balcony. Using an identification flyer provided by natur&ëmwelt, participants can note the species they see. A key guideline is to avoid double-counting: observers should record only the highest number of each species seen at any one time.
