Safety First: AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI), while still a developing field, is already transforming daily life by automating processes and performing complex tasks.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), while still a developing field, is already transforming daily life by automating processes and performing complex tasks. At its core, AI systems are engineered to mimic human cognitive abilities: they analyse their environment, solve problems independently, and continuously learn and adapt.

The practical applications of AI are now widespread. As previously discussed in our coverage of deepfakes, AI can generate highly realistic synthetic images and videos. The same technology also powers the algorithms that curate content on major digital platforms.

While on the one hand AI can be leveraged to produce and spread disinformation, on the other hand it is equally employed to develop tools that detect and counter such fake news.

For individuals seeking to identify AI-generated content, specialised AI detectors are available online. When encountering questionable material, a useful practice is to assess it against established journalistic standards, such as source verification and cross-referencing with reputable outlets. The European Union’s AI Act can also be a good resource if you want to learn more about artificial intelligence.
