Four Luxembourgish youth political parties have issued a joint letter to the government urging formal recognition of the State of Palestine, amid renewed international concern over civilian casualties in Gaza.

The statement comes after the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported on Friday that around 1,400 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli military action in the past two months.

The youth wings of four major parties – the CSV (Christian Social Youth), the DP (Young Democrats), déi Gréng (Young Greens) and the LSAP (Young Socialists) – have jointly called on the government to support the recognition of Palestine, urging it to join France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and a dozen other nations in officially recognising Palestinian statehood at the UN summit in September, based on the pre-1967 borders.

In addition, the youth wing of The Left issued a separate press release calling not only for the recognition of Palestine but also for sanctions against Israel. Their demands include the suspension of EU–Israel agreements at both national and European levels, the cancellation of arms export licences, and a ban on Luxembourgish companies cooperating with Israeli military manufacturers.
