For the first time since the issue was surprisingly brought up by CSV party president Frank Engel in an interview, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has taken a position on the potential introduction of a wealth tax.

In an interview with Luxembourgish newspaper Wort, Bettel explained that the current coalition programme would not envision the introduction of a wealth or inheritance tax, and that he would therefore not plan on implementing them.

He acknowledged that the costs of the corona crisis had also not been included in the initial agreement, but he emphasised that raising taxes at this point in time would be "poison for the people and for the economy."
