Claude Wiseler, president of Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies, on Monday participated in a commemoration ceremony in Bucha, Ukraine. The village at the periphery of Kyiv was occupied by Russian troops for a month in March 2022. It was the location of alleged war crimes committed by Russian troops, with more than 500 civilians reportedly executed.
At the time, images of the massacre circulated all around the globe.
It is in this context that the 2025 Bucha Summit was organised, a conference of speakers and delegation heads of national parliaments of European countries held to commemorate the third anniversary of the liberation of Bucha.
Wiseler, in a solemn video message, described the emotional experience of listening to the witnesses of the massacre, emphasising that European leaders’ presence in Bucha was important to show solidarity to Ukraine as a victim of Russian aggression. He further confirmed Luxembourg’s commitment as an ally of Ukraine.
During his intervention in the summit, Wiseler stressed that any peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia should be underpinned by the fact that Ukraine is the victim. Furthermore, he expressed Luxembourg’s support for the documentation of alleged Russian war crimes, which should be determined by an international judicial body.
