In response to a parliamentary question submitted by the LSAP’s Yves Cruchten, Meisch confirmed that a number of affordable housing units are currently not allocated to any tenants.

The 132 homes have been empty “for more than two months”, he wrote on 29 July 2025. 88 units are said to be undergoing renovation works, while the remaining 44 units are “in the process of being allocated or rehoused.” This means approximately 5% of the 2,266 units owned by the Housing Fund are standing empty.

As the housing shortage is hitting the Grand Duchy hard, the gap in allocating homes can reach up to six months for properties undergoing renovation, and three months for the reallocation procedure. The government is hoping to reduce these delays, attempting to anticipate planned renovation works and making the units available for households considered to be high priority.
