In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Rosport campsite had to be evacuated. Six people were accommodated in the cultural centre at Osweiler, where an emergency structure has been set up. The victims can rest there, but also shower and eat. People have also been accommodated in the Rosport sports centre. These two structures were chosen because they are accessible to the inhabitants of the municipality, explains Romain Osweiler, mayor of Rosport.
These historic floods also affected Hesperange and Alzingen, where tourists have had to leave the campsite. Equipment washed down the Alzette and was recovered. In rue de l'Alzette, Maria and her husband were evacuated late Thursday morning. There are 50 centimetres of water in the house, says the lady, who found refuge at her daughter's house. The furniture is floating in the house, and everything is broken, Maria regrets.
Other neighbours were evacuated from their homes by rescue workers in boats. Often in an impromptu manner, with barely enough time to pack the essentials. For those who cannot be taken in by family members, the town hall has looked for a hotel, explains Marc Lies, mayor of Hesperange. The few available accommodations in the municipality are not furnished.
The municipal authorities of Bettembourg will also accommodate a dozen people in a hotel in the coming days. Inhabitants of rue de l'Eau in particular were surprised by the rising waters in the middle of the night.
