According to Statec's latest findings, fuel consumption increases with distance from the capital.
Thus a household in Wiltz, one of the municipalities with high fuel consumption, spends an average of €1,675 per year. These expenses are solely related to individual transportation.
In comparison, residents of Luxembourg's capital only spend an average of €985 per year.
According to Statec's calculations, fuel expenses represent 2.7% of the annual income of households settled in Wiltz and "only" 1.3% of the income of those living in Luxembourg City.

As a general rule, communes in the north and east of Luxembourg tend to consume the most fuel.
Clervaux, Vianden, Echternach and Grevenmacher all follow Wiltz with an average expenditure that exceeds €1500 per household per year.
Next we find other towns from the country's south and west corners, such as Esch, Remich, Capellen and Redange, where costs average between €1201 and €1500 a year. Diekirch, though further north, falls into the same category.
Finally, only the households of Mersch and Luxembourg remain, where expenses average at less than €1200 per year.
