Luxembourg police thwarted an alleged fugitive's escape attempt on Sunday, arresting a 26-year-old man wanted for attempted murder in Portugal moments before he could board an Ireland-bound flight.

A 26-year-old man wanted on serious charges in Portugal was arrested Sunday morning at Luxembourg Airport while attempting to board a flight to Ireland.

According to police, the suspect was identified during routine security checks at Findel Airport as he prepared to depart for Dublin. He is wanted by Portuguese authorities for attempted murder and illegal weapons possession related to a 2024 shooting incident.

Acting under a European arrest warrant, Luxembourg authorities apprehended the man. He has been transferred to the Uerschterhaff Penitentiary Centre in Sanem and is scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate on Monday, 28 April.
