At the end of July, swimming bans were issued for the upper part of Weiswampach lake, due to the presence of cyanobacteria – the Buerfelt and Rommwiss beaches at Upper Sûre Lake also banned swimming for the same reason from early August.

The Water Management Authority confirmed the swimming ban had been lifted as of Thursday, with swimming now permitted everywhere at Weiswampach lake.

The cyanobacteria was triggered by the heatwave in both lakes, leading to the swimming bans. Now that temperatures have dropped, the bacteria has reduced to levels which are no longer a health risk. LIST analysis said the blue algae had in parts completlety evaporated, the authority wrote in a press release.

The Water Management Authority website permits the public to check water quality at Luxembourg's open swimming locations at any time.
