Since April last year, the pedestrian bridge over the Sûre in Diekirch, known as the Fisselsbréck, has been closed.

The bridge connects the Diekirch park behind the town hall with the Sauerwiss district and was shut down due to the poor condition of the cables stabilising the structure.

About a month after the bridge was closed, the National Roads Administration set up a pontoon bridge right next to it. At the time, the Diekirch municipality asked for a sturdier temporary solution to be quickly put in place, since the pontoon bridge – besides the obvious stability issues – had the drawback of needing to be closed during periods of high water. More than a year later, the replacement temporary bridge is finally taking shape.

Preparation work is currently underway on both banks of the Sûre. However, due to the collective construction holiday, work will be interrupted again, so it will likely take until mid-September for the new temporary bridge to open. At that point, the current pontoon bridge will be removed.

When the renovation work on the Fisselsbréck itself will begin is still unknown. The bridge, which opened in 1975, is 70 metres long and made of steel and reinforced concrete.
