In a recent press release, the ULC laments, above all, the absence of a dedicated Ministry of Consumer Protection under the current CSV-DP government. This comes as a surprise, given that both political parties had advocated for robust consumer protection during the election campaign, notes the ULC.
Despite this setback, the ULC acknowledges the positive aspect that consumer protection will continue to be overseen by a single ministry, avoiding fragmentation. Minister of Agriculture Martine Hansen has assumed this responsibility, and the ULC reports that an initial informal meeting with her has been “very promising.”
The ULC is particularly eager to witness advancements, especially in the realm of class action lawsuits.
