According to the STATEC report, “two thirds of women stated they had been victims of physical, psychological, sexual, or economic violence at least once in their life”.

The report describes economic violence as occurring in relationships where one partner exploits their socio-economic superiority by controlling and limiting the financial means of their victims, or even preventing them from earning a salary themselves.

The report is based on a poll that STATEC conducted among residents. A graphic published alongside the report outlines the experiences that mark the lives of women suffering from violence.

One in two women have experienced psychological aggression such as stalking, while one in three women report having experienced physical violence. Close to one in three women have suffered from a form of sexual violence and one in ten have been victims of sexual assaults, including rape and rape attempts.

41% of women who have already been victims express continued fear over being assaulted by a stranger. 43,000 women between the age of 16 and 74 reported having been the victim of violence within the last twelve months. One in three of them stated to feel unsafe when out alone in their home area at night.

Victims can call a specialised helpline, called ‘Domestic Violence’, seven days a week between noon and 8pm, on 2060-1060. The support line responds to every caller, regardless of gender.
