The severe weather, compounded by heavy rainfall and forceful gusts, left numerous households without electricity and caused rivers to overflow, and had prompted a double orange alert for flooding and strong winds on 22 February.
In addition to forcing authorities to close roads and car parks, the widespread wind gusts also caused two reported injuries.
At approximately 7.15pm, emergency responders rushed to Rue de la Semois in Hollerich, where an individual was trapped under a fallen tree and subsequently transported to A&E.
Earlier, at around 6.20pm, a tree collapsed onto a bus in Erpeldange, necessitating rescue efforts by personnel from Wiltz to assist an injured individual at the scene.
Throughout the evening, Luxembourg’s fire brigades and other emergency services grappled with a flurry of incidents, logging a total of 137 interventions across the country.
Responses included addressing damaged roofs, broken fences, and flooded cellars, with falling trees and large branches comprising the majority of the workload. The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) reported no less than 124 fallen trees, with half of the debris clearance handled by the Bridges and Roads Authority.
