Officers at the scene caught two men in the act of robbing a newsagents on Place de Nancy, where they had broken down the front door in an attempt to steal cartons of cigarettes and scratch cards.
The police patrol located one of the suspects attempting to hide behind the store. He had placed cigarettes in the rubbish bin next to him and had burglary tools in his backpack.
A second suspect was found in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene, holding an empty bin. He was carrying a large number of lottery scratch cards worth around €1,000.
After informing the public prosecutor’s office, both suspects were arrested and brought before magistrates on Thursday morning. Both were then sent to Schrassig prison for remand.
