Construction work is under way in a tunnel that has been placed under the closed track to replace a level crossing. The project is scheduled to be completed by 11 September.
After two and a half years of work, the site is in its final phase, with a few tasks still to be completed, such as laying the last layer of tarmac and installing the pedestrian stairs on both sides of the rails.
A separate bicycle lane has also been included at a slightly higher height than the road to ensure greater safety for cyclists.
As the crossing could be closed up to 134 times a day at this location, the construction of the tunnel represents a great relief for road users by eliminating the traffic jams created by the numerous train crossings.
Luxembourg's national railway company CFL is working to eliminate as many level crossings as possible in Luxembourg by replacing them with other solutions such as tunnels or bridges, particularly in order to avoid accidents at these precarious locations but also to improve the punctuality of their trains.
