The virus subtype H5N1 was detected in a common tern and in two black-headed gulls. The last bird flu cases in Luxembourg were reported in Wincrange in February.
To prevent further transmissions of the highly pathogenic virus from endangering poultry flocks, the Luxembourgish Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) is calling for vigilance. Suspicious bird deaths should always be brought to the attention of a veterinary and imported birds need to be certified by a veterinary from the country of origin.
In case people encounter a wild bird that is sick or dead, they should alert the ALVA via phone (2478 2539) or email (info@alva.etat.lu).
