Both cars collided head-on around 5.30pm on Wednesday. The force of the impact was strong enough to eject the engine of one of the vehicles several metres away from the accident.
Several ambulances were on site and three people were reportedly injured.
The part of the road affected by the accident remained closed for the duration of the rescue and clearance operation. A deviation has been put in place.
