These figures were unveiled at a press conference at the Maison de la Nature on Wednesday.

The Association of Biologists, the Ecological Movement, the National Museum of Natural History, Natur an Ëmwelt and the Society of Naturalists have come together to draw attention to the dramatic decline in the number of birds in the region. (video in Luxembourgish)

According to experts at the press conference, humans are destroying their natural habitat and home. The different associations deplored the lack of interest in the disappearance of the different species, as well as discussions regarding climate. They insisted that extinct species will return, due to the sad reality of human inaction.

The press conference also highlighted the frightening fact that common species such as swallows and sparrows appear on the red list - birds which are considered extremely common in the Grand Duchy.
