For the second year in a row, the National Day festivities have been severely curtailed across the country.
Municipalities chose various options to celebrate, whether via a prerecorded video address by the mayor as in Esch-sur-Alzette, or a limited entry event under "CovidCheck" rules as in Dudelange.
In Bascharage ("Käerjeng" in Luxembourgish), the traditional celebrations on place Claus Cito were relocated to people's homes, or "doheem". But just like last year, the council spread some joy by offering residents a goodie bag filled with local delicacies, appropriately called "Lëtz Pack".
"For its second edition, the event has been enormously successful this year: 70% of the total population of 10,500 residents have ordered a Lëtz Pack", says Ben Birsens, chief of communications for the council.
To pack the local beers, sausage sticks made by a famous butcher and the crisp bags using potatoes from around the corner into over 7,300 goodie bags, the council had help from 26 local clubs and associations.

The bags are free for residents, but Ben Birsens admits that the cost was "somewhat higher than for a local celebration". In cooperation with local suppliers (including the crémant, even if this was not from the area), each bag came to about 10 Euro.
Also included is a magic candle, which residents were invited to light at 11.30pm and share a photo.
