EurostatTeenage mothers account for less than 1.4% of births in Luxembourg

In 2017, the majority of first births (92%) in the EU were to women aged between 20 and 39 years, according to data from Eurostat.

In 2017, Bulgaria and Romania recorded the highest shares of births of first children to young mothers aged below 20 (12.5% and 12.1%) respectively. They were followed by Hungary (8.5%) and Slovakia (8.1%). The European average lies at 3.7%.

The story is a different one in Denmark, Italy, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, where young mothers accounted for less than 2% of first births.
