The A1 motorway lanes heading toward Trier were closed on Thursday, between the Croix de Gasperich and Sandweiler/Hamm, after a lorry jackknifed across the road and blocked it for further traffic. Two other lorries were involved in the incident, which left one lorry driver trapped in his cab until the emergency services could cut him out.
At midday there were tailbacks as far as Kirchberg following the incident. Authorities have warned motorists to steer clear of the area and take alternative routes where possible.
