The meteorological overview for spring 2026, presented on Monday by AgriMeteo, Meteolux, and the Water Management Authority, indicates that the season was both warmer and drier than the long-term average.
Throughout spring, temperatures in Luxembourg consistently exceeded the reference average for the years 1991 to 2020. In April, every weather station except Clemency recorded above-average temperatures. May also saw significant contrasts: while the first two-thirds of the month were cooler than usual, an intense heatwave at the end of May pushed temperatures to exceptional levels. On 26 May, several stations operated by the Rural Economy and Agriculture Authority (ASTA) registered new May high-temperature records; however, the all-time May temperature record for Luxembourg – 33.1°C set in Ettelbruck on 27 May 2005 – remains unbeaten.
Rainfall totals for the spring were well below normal, particularly in April, which saw a considerable precipitation deficit.
Despite these conditions, vegetable, fruit, and vine crops generally benefited from favourable conditions so far, although many producers have had to resort to artificial irrigation. As for fodder crops for livestock, the first harvest yielded average quantities but was of good quality.
At present, the recent heat and dryness have not yet affected overall yields. However, experts warn that prolonged high temperatures and continued lack of rainfall could negatively impact agricultural output in the coming weeks.
