Police caught a number of inebriated drivers on Saturday night.

One motorist caught the attention of police between Wiltz and Schumannseck at 7.15pm on Saturday, as he was weaving across the road. One positive breathalyser test later and his licence was confiscated. The same happened to a driver in Esch-sur-Alzette at 8.45pm.

Later, at 10pm, a woman crashed her vehicle into a parked car at Aire de Berchem. She was found to be over the limit and had her licence taken away.

Two more inebriated drivers were caught by police in Esch-sur-Alzette later on Saturday night, and a further motorist was picked up in the same area for driving without a valid licence.

Another incident occurred on the A7 motorway at 10.30pm, when police noticed three vehicles parked on the hard shoulder just before the Gosseldange tunnel.

Upon arrival, police only encountered two drivers. One of these explained he was unable to avoid crashing into traffic signs, due to dangerous driving by a grey, Luxembourg-registered BMW. The latter stopped on the side of the road, entering a tense discussion with the driver who crashed. The culprit then fled as a third vehicle was forced to pull over after hitting damaged panels on the road.

The driver who caused the accident could not be found. One of the other drivers was found to be over the limit and had his licence removed. The A7 was closed to traffic for a short time in the wake of the incident.
