A serious traffic accident is causing major delays on the A31 and A3 motorways between Luxembourg and France on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Motorway Traffic Control and Information Centre (CITA), a collision occurred on the A31 near Zoufftgen shortly after the border, on the carriageway leading from Luxembourg toward Thionville. As a result, the left-hand lane has been closed, causing extensive congestion.
By 3pm, traffic had come to a standstill along both the A31 and A3, with traffic jams stretching back as far as Croix de Bettembourg. Drivers heading between Luxembourg City and Thionville should expect journey times of over an hour.
Travellers are advised to carry supplies such as water, as delays may last longer than expected.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops
