The police checked a total of 169 drivers for alcohol across three sites in Luxembourg City, on boulevard de Kockelscheuer, rue de Beggen, and Route d’Arlon. 11 of them tested positive for alcohol, resulting in the confiscation of four licenses and two taxed warnings.
Aside from the police checks, five further incidents of drink driving were reported.
At around 8 pm, a vehicle raised suspicions for driving in a zigzag pattern in Erpeldange-sur-Sure. The driver even went so far as to damage a road sign. The police were able to trace the vehicle in question, which was indeed damaged, to the driver’s address, where they established that the driver showed several signs of alcohol consumption. His driving license was revoked on the spot.
Later that evening, at around 10 pm, police officers spotted a vehicle speeding through Bonnevoie. The driver tested positive for alcohol and his driving licence was confiscated, as was the car.
At around 1.20 am on Saturday morning, a further drunk driver was reported to the police on the A7 motorway, who was intercepted and checked near Colmar-Berg. Again, the police could confirm he had been drinking behind the wheel, resulting in his license being confiscated as well as a complaint being filed.
Shortly after 3 am, a police car was damaged after being hit by another vehicle on Côte d’Eich. However, as the driver did not stop to get their affairs in order, the police pursued and intercepted the car on Place du Théâtre shortly after. Here too, the driver had been drinking and lost his license as a result.
One final incident of drink driving was reported at around 5.40 am, when a female driver was stopped and checked by an officer in Olingen for her driving behaviour. Her license was also revoked as soon as the alcohol test turned out to be positive.
