An “inappropriately” used substance has likely caused the death of several birds in Cessange.

The Veterinary Administration and Nature Agency have reported that several dead birds have been found in the municipality since February 5, including rooks, crows, starlings, and doves.

Analyses conducted at the Veterinary and Food Laboratory confirmed the presence of “a rodenticide active substance in a high concentration.” This substance is authorized in Europe for use as rodent control, but is intended exclusively for indoor spaces, and “inappropriate use can lead to symptoms of poisoning in both domestic and wild animals.”

The two administrations are warning residents: If you find dead wild animals in the Cessange park or the surrounding area, please report it to the relevant forest ranger (phone: 621 202 196 or 621 202 110).

In the case of wild animals that “seem ill” or behave “unusually,” the Dudelange care centre should be contacted (phone: 26 51 39 90). Finally, any suspected poisoning of humans or domestic animals should be reported to a doctor or veterinarian. In case of urgent need, the poison centre hotline for Luxembourg can be reached via phone at 8002-5500.
