A series of break-ins and a man was assaulted in a shopping centre in Kirchberg on Saturday, according to the police.

On Saturday in the early evening, a man was accosted by two young men in a shopping centre in Kirchberg, before having his necklace ripped from his neck. The victim was quick and managed to retrieve his necklace. The two alleged perpetrators were detained until the police arrived.

Further police investigations revealed that both men are suspected of being involved in a series of additional assaults throughout the day. Four stolen phones and a stolen credit card were found in their possession. At the request of the prosecutor’s office, the two men were arrested and presented to the examining judge on Sunday morning.

Home and car break-ins

On Saturday, the police also received reports of a wave of burglaries including incidents in Mersch, Mamer, Helmsange, Dudelange, and in Nocher-Route. In Luxembourg City, there were two incidents. The thieves left with jewellery and cash.
In Esch, three cars were broken into during Saturday night, more specifically in Rue de l’Hopital and Avenue du Rock’n Roll. Through smashed windows, the thieves stole items including a laptop. In the City, a car window was also smashed in Rue de Reims, although nothing was stolen here.

The police reportedly also caught a drunk driver on Saturday evening on the A4 in the direction of Leudelange. The driver had to hand in his license.
