The most recent incident involves the replication of the appearance of our French counterparts at RTL Infos. In this scheme, social media users are enticed to visit a website named “lunewslu.club” under the guise of a news story about the management of Swiss broadcaster SRF, accompanied by a photograph of Swiss musician DJ BoBo.
Similarly, on another occasion, scammers used the likeness of DJ BoBo and the branding of our Luxembourg colleagues from RTL.lu on Facebook, spreading false information about the musician’s demise in an accident. Once again, the underlying objective is to lure users to a website and trick them into revealing sensitive data.
When in doubt, refrain from clicking on such links. If you do, never disclose personal information under any circumstances.
