In Friday morning’s report, the Grand Ducal police warned of a new scam doing the rounds in Luxembourg. Fraudsters are targeting potential victims using false brochures purporting to offer savings schemes from Spuerkeess bank. However, the returns promoted in the leaflets are unrealistic.
Spuerkeess issued a statement confirming it was not responsible for the brochures.
The scam brochure is based on an old leaflet layout which was distributed to people who were not already part of the bank’s customer base. It encourages victims to deposit money using false information and a fictional email address for a member of the bank’s staff.

“We encourage all our customers and the general public to pay particular attention”, the bank said on Friday. In case of any confusion, victims are encouraged to contact their usual point of contact, or to call the bank directly or visit a Spuerkeess branch.
The police advise the public to always contact their bank directly in case of any suspicion. They should also be wary of any schemes promising quick and easy money. Victims of an investment scam such as this one should file an official complaint.
