At the moment, the Ministry of Health employs close to 200 health care workers to cover the country’s vaccination centres. All of them have different employment contracts, which means that they earn different salaries.

Our colleagues from RTL talked to Luc Feller, head of the High Commission for National Protection, about the process: “The Ministry of Health has worked out employment contracts with the respective associations of our target groups.” Doctors and physiotherapists are paid an hourly rate, as they continue to treat their own patients if time allows it.

Patrick Obertin of the Luxembourg physiotherapists’ association (ALK) also commented on the situation: “We worked out all the details in advance, including which trainings our people still needed, or which tasks they will perform at the vaccination centres.”

Doctors earn more than physical therapists, given that the hourly rates of the former (€240) are more than twice as high as those of the latter (€115). Doctors also have more responsibility, as they are in charge of the procedures and decide whether or not a patient can be vaccinated.

The situation is different for nurses. They have full-time contracts at the vaccination centres and thus earn fixed salaries. The rates are calculated according to their respective hospital contracts, explained Feller. They either work 40-hour or 20-hour weeks.
