World Children's DayRTL Today goes blue for a day in partnership with Unicef

RTL Today
You might have noticed something slightly different about our page today on 20 November? All the RTL websites (RTL Today, RTL Letzebuerg, and RTL 5Minutes, if you need a reminder) have taken up the colours of partner Unicef for World Children's Day.

20 November marks the anniversary of the United Nations adopting the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. For the occasion, Unicef has launched an appeal to children throughout the world: take control, draw attention, and be in solidarity with vulnerable children.

Today, children will take over different roles in the media, politics, the economy, and sports in order to raise awareness of the most urgent challenges facing their generation. Our colleagues at RTL Radio and RTL Télé have planned a special day in collaboration with Unicef, as children will take part in various programmes throughout the day.

Children's rights in Luxembourg

On Tuesday, Luxembourg's Children's Rights Committee (ORK) gave their annual report to the President of the Chamber of Deputies and the Minister of State. The report revealed that 130 new files opened concerning 250 children in the past twelve months.

Around 30 of the files concerned parents' divorce or separation, a dozen concerned the children of asylum seekers, and nine cases revolved around the placement of children in a children's home.
