Businessman and developer Rolphe Reding has died, a mere week after his 83rd birthday.

The developer was known for founding the Chambre Immobilière (Real Estate Chamber) and became one of the owners of the Alfa Hotel, a prestigious building dating back to the 1930s, in the early 1990s. The hotel closed down in 2017 and was set to reopen at the end of this year under new management.

During his long career, Reding also served as president of the Economic and Social Council, before handing the presidency over to Romain Schintgen in 1989.
