On Thursday, the National Health Directorate released its latest report on the trends of key acute respiratory infections, including Covid-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), in Luxembourg.
During week 9, spanning from 24 February to 2 March 2025, the number of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases dropped by 25%, falling from 1,178 to 887 compared to the previous week. Infections remain most prevalent among children. “The decline in cases observed over the past four weeks confirms that the peak of the epidemic has passed,” the National Health Directorate stated.
40% of typed influenza cases were identified as influenza A, while 60% were influenza B. Further analysis of the influenza A samples revealed two subtypes: A(H1)pdm09 (44.6%) and A(H3) (55.4%).
For RSV, a slight decrease of 5% was recorded, with 121 confirmed cases compared to 128 the previous week. Infections continue to primarily affect the youngest and oldest age groups, specifically young children and individuals over 80 years old.
Meanwhile, the number of positive SARS-CoV-2 cases also declined, dropping from 42 to 28 – a 33% decrease compared to the previous week.
